For those of you who had experience with the older SkyBell models like me and hated the insanely small annoying screw under the bottom, this has been addressed and is finally nice and easy to install. Setup with the app was much faster and worked the FIRST time in both cases. I would say the longest part is the 5 or so minutes it has to charge the internal battery, after that it only takes a minute or two to get it all setup and configured. The LED lights are extremely helpful in knowing what the device is doing during setup along the way. It comes with a little card showing all the possible light combinations in the box. Weather/ReliabilityMy SkyBell HD has been through the rainy season and I can tell you now that the water had no effect on my device, seems great no matter what the weather was.

That’s all changed. Today you can buy DIY home security systems that have professional grade wireless security equipment that’s extremely reliable, easy to install and affordable. Basic DIY home security systems start at about $225 and top out at $800 or so. If you add wireless smoke/heat detectors, plan to spend about $1,300 for DIY alarm systems. That’s about half of what a professional alarm company would charge. Monitoring service, which notifies the police or fire department, can cost $40 or more per month.
