The legend of Folly
Once, a rich man build a house for his new bride. When the house was ready he planted the garden with white flowers and took his bride to Jamaica for their honeymoon. All was ready for a romantic life, he thought.

But..., while building the house he made a terrible mistake: the concrete was mixed with seawater. And just at the moment he carried his brand-new wife over the threshold the concrete began to crumble. His wife fled in terror at the oman and left immediately. She never returned...

Actually the house was build in 1905 by Alfred Mitchell, a jeweler from the United States. He lived there till his death. The salt sea-air did change the house into a ruin, which is still there today.

Mmm, sometimes a legend is more romantic than reality...

1. Moore Town
Just a slight correction. The correct spelling for the people in Moore Town, Portland is, Maroons.

Additionally, I would like to add that one of the largest food festivals in Jamaica, the Portland Jerk Festival is held end of June, early July annually in Port Antonio. It attracts approximately 20-30,000 patrons from all over the world.

Also annually, on the 3rd Sunday in February, Sista P presents FiWi Sinting, the largest Black History Month Celebration in the Caribbean and perhaps the world. This celebration pays homage to our ancestors and highlights all our cultural heritage such as the spoken word, art, dance and music and lots of food and juices. Mutabaruka plays African Music all day long. Truly a wonderful experience for the young and the not so young.
