Margueritaville
It almost looks like a fairy tale.
In 1994 two guys, Ian Dear and Brian Jardim bought a run-down restaurant at Gloucester Avenue in Montego Bay. The rebuild the place, installed Jamaica's first waterslide, prepared an excellent menu and organized nighttime parties. This is what those two boys called Margueritaville. And from the first day the place opened the doors, Margueritaville was a runaway success.

Not much later the boys opened Marguerites Seafood by the Sea, also on MoBay's Hip Strip. And in 1996 Margueritaville Negril opened his doors.

Not bad for two boys coming from the hospitality industry and real estate development, huh?
Take a virtual Margueritaville preview at the Margueritaville website!

Beach delight for everyone...

Our first overnight stay in Jamaica was Negril, in the meantime several years ago.
We had a mind to a relaxing beach vacation without to much hodgepodge. Only a bit tanning in the sun, a dive in a turquoise sea and in the evening a good meal in the open air. Indeed, it went all right over there in Negril although at that moment we were not aware that we should visit Jamaica many, many times more.
And still now during a trip to Jamaica we "build in" one or more days Negril to quiet down nicely for a while.

Cane too
Negril is situated about one and a half hour driving from Montego Bay and is the most westerly point of Jamaica. It is the region of beaches and sugarcane fields.

Negril - Seven Miles Beach

Negril is a seaside resort for everyone. An accommodation for every budget can be found. You can stay in a simple small hotel in the Jamaican way or in a five stars "All Inclusive" resort. The same is applying to the quantity of restaurants and eating-houses. Starting with "Jerk Chicken" from a stand along the road to a five courses diner in a luxurious restaurant. It depends on what you want and how much you wish to pay for.

More relaxed
We always had the impression that in Negril life is somewhat more kindhearted in comparison with the other seaside resorts in Jamaica. Along the white sand beach hotels and houses of the local population are alternating each other. The coco-nut-palms are growing up to on the beach and people are always in for a joke or a good conversation. The atmosphere is relaxed and the sun is taking care for the rest.

The famous "Seven Miles Beach" is stretching over Long Bay and Bloody Bay.
That last name sounds ominous but that turns out not to be so. Bloody Bay owes her name to the fact that in the past passing whalers dissecting their catch in the bay. Doing so the water in the bay colored red and the name Bloody Bay was born.

Negril - Sonfacy offering live music on the beach

Do you find yourselves in the water in the neighborhood of Negril River than it can occur that the blue water colors yellow spontaneously. This too is not terrifying, mangroves in the river getting loose, coloring the water yellow and as soon as this water reaches the river-mouth it is spreading over the bay like an oil spot. A miraculous natural phenomenon.

Sunset
Negril's most famous café is of course Rick's Café. The right place for a drink and an excellent (fish)meal but most of all the place to admire the almost always-visible sunset. And do you like a jump of 30 meters from the rocks into the sea then the local youth will, with pleasure, show you how to do this.

Surely a visit to the Negril Lighthouse is worthy too. It offers you a beautiful view over the ocean where somewhere on the horizon Mexico is situated.
Inland is Great Morass situated. The domain of tropical vegetation and home species of animals.
Negril offers her visitors fine possibilities to discover the surroundings. Organized tours on scooters, by car or taxi or a complete tour with everything arranged.

Negril - Angry seas at West End

Negril is a place where you can quiet down and an excellent start to discover Westmoreland and Cornwall.
Undoubtedly you will meet us there from time to time.
