How to make coconut oil
Two ways to make coconut oil
What you need....
  • 2 very dry coconuts
  • 1/4 pint of water
  • and for the 2nd method you also need:
    • 1 to 1 1/2 tsp. lime juice
    • a pinch of salt
How to prepare...

1st method:
  1. grate the coconuts, add the water and knead for about 5 minutes to work out the milk
  2. strain
  3. boil the milk without stirring till it turns to oil, in about 1 to 1 1/2 hour
  4. strain again, cool and bottle
2nd method:
  1. first, prepare the coconut milk as above
  2. strain and add 1 to 1 1/2 tsp. lime juice and a pinch of salt
  3. stand for about 12 hours, by which time oil separates from the water and floats at the top
  4. skim off the oil and boil it for about 30 minutes or until all water has been dried off
  5. strain, cool and bottle
And... enjoy!
