Is eastern Jamaica interesting to visit?

An impression of Port Antonio

[more Port Antonio on YouTube.com]

On January 29, the Jamaica Observer writes about 'a big tourism plan for eastern Jamaica'.
Prime Minister Daryl Vaz confirmed the development of a well-equipped aerodrome in Duckenfield, St. Thomas, to open up the eastern end of the island for tourist investments.

What about you?
Would you visit the eastern part of Jamaica in stead of, let's say... Negril, MoBay or Ochee?

I would...
If you're looking for some rest and nature... Forget the crowdy beaches in the tourist areas like Negril and Ochee...
And come to the east!
:)

Of course you should visit eastern Jamaica!
It's beautiful and Boston Jerk is the best of the whole island!!!

If you have never been to the serene Blue Lagoon, Frenchmans Cove, Boston Bay, San San Beach or Monkey Island in Portland or Reach Falls in St. Thomas then you have not had the total Jamaican experience!

Monica, I agree!
Of course it is good that the local economy gets more tourists. More visitors means more money which is ok for the locals.
But please, please, please, keep an eye on the nature. Don't destroy it only for development of the region! Take a lesson from the past: the bauxite industry destroyed lots of beautiful areas in Jamaica, remember?
Don't let that happen again Minister Daryl Vaz!
 5 Port Antonio is gorgeous!

Harbors, beaches, history, the always green rain forest and the Blue Mountains, seafood and jerk and lots of nice men and women...
Yes, this part of Jamaica is so... beautifully different than the other parts of the island. I love it!

I think that development of this area will be good for the local economy, but I hope it will not destroy it's nature and the way of life!

Monica.

Yup, why not?
Every part of Jamaica has it's own charm, so I suppose it would be a good idea to visit the eastern parishes too.
 7 Yes, I would!

I visited Portland and St. Thomas 2 years ago during a short round trip and I was impressed.
The coast, the forests, the mountains... Totally different as the western part of Jamaica (of course, the western part of the island is beautiful too). A recommendation!
I am sure I would go back to this reagion when I am visiting Jamaica again!
