We're glad you found your way here, and hope you'll want to participate with us in the discussions about Jamaica issues. You needn't be an expert to take part; we welcome all Jamaicans and all worldwide Jamaica lovers.
Feel free to jump right in with a reply to any message you can see. Even if you consider yourself a Jamaica novice, please don't be shy about asking a question... You'll find out that even our most expert participants are generous about sharing their knowledge and helping relative newcomers learn more about this wonderful country and its people.
Prime directive one: no flaming
We consider this board a "flame-free zone." Personal attacks and insulting posts are strongly frowned upon and may be removed from public view.
However, we find that this issue rarely arises among our community, as civil, polite and intelligent discussion has evolved as a consensus goal for the group.
Prime directive two: no spam
Also, while we welcome participants who are in the any kind of (Jamaican) business, we do ask that everyone avoid overtly commercial postings and business solicitations.
"Spam," that is unsolicited commercial posts by non-regular participants, will be ruthlessly and quickly removed from the board.
This is not meant to discourage members of our community who are in business from discussing their work, responding appropriately to questions, or informing the group of legitimate buying opportunities of general interest. Our "regulars" shouldn't have any problem discerning what's appropriate, but if you're in any doubt, please feel free to contact us.
Prime directive three: no dope
Jamaica and drugs, two words, unfortunately most spoken in one breath… Well, let’s say this: DutchJamaica.com (forum and posting areas included) is not the place to buy or sell it. But if you want to discuss about it…, be our guest!
Staying on topic
Again, please stay on topic, more or less. It helps us to keep the forum an interesting source for info and discussion.
If you are not sure if your post will be topic related enough, feel free to start a new topic or to contact the forum administration.
No personal details
Be sure -for your own privacy and security- you never post personal details like phone numbers or e-mail addresses in our posting areas. Remember that DutchJamaica.com is not responsible for any consequences of posting such details!
Language
Keep an eye on the language you use. Violation, abuse, discrimination or any other kind of illegal or not common usage of words or sentences is not allowed. These messages will be removed immediately. Keep this forum clean so it can stay online, now and in the future!
By the way, DutchJamaica.com is set up in English, please keep it that way, we appreciate that.
Copyright and the ownership of your work
Under international treaty (the Berne Convention) you retain copyright to your own notes and everything else you publish on DutchJamaica.com and the forum.
We assert no claim on your intellectual property other than (1) obviously, the right to publish it online under your name, and (2) a "compilation copyright" to the body of material on A Dutch View on Jamaica, meaning, simply, that no one has the right to copy it without your explicit permission.
In short, our policy is simple: We respect your copyright, and we will go out of my way to help you defend it, if necessary.
