The Ripple Effect - CHNY2k9, the 9th annual celebration of the Chinese New Year in Negril! Jan. 24th -31st 2009.
This week long event represents a bridging of the festival community in the United States with that in Negril. Many staff, volunteers, and attendees are from Western North Carolina, as are several of the bands performing at this year's event: Acoustic Syndicate, members of Larry Keel and Natural Bridge, Laura Reed and Deep Pocket, Josh Phillips Folk Festival, Snake Oil Medicine Show, and CX-1. International performers include Kenyatta CULTURE Hill, Little Feat guitarists Fred Tackett and Paul Barrere, The Overtakers, and much more. Concerts feature Live Art, Niyabinghi Drummers, Fire Performances and Dragon Parades.
CHNY and the non-profit DeepBlueRipple International work together to create Philanthropy through Fun. In addition to its own thriving 7 year donation drive, DeepBlueRipple manages donation drives for Little Feat and RatDog fan excursions. Each attendee is asked to bring a child's backpack filled with musical instruments, school & art supplies, and recreational equipment. Donations are distributed to secure donation sites such as schools, an orphanage for disabled children, and local organizations providing assistance to disadvantaged youth. Cross-cultural activities, spontaneous cliffside jams, excursions, and fun events occur daily, both planned and spontaneous. The organization supports sustainable community tourism, thus guests experience a side of Jamaica not seen by tourists who stay behind the walls of all-inclusive resorts. CHNY musicians & guests participate in the 2nd annual Friends of the West End Kids Fair and a concert at the West Haven Children's Home for the Disabled deep in the mountains of Jamaica to help bring music, art, and play into the lives of children in disadvantaged situations.
Contribute to the Ripple Effect & brighten the lives of needy children, while relishing in the beauty, culture, and music of Jamaica! If you wish to donate please contact us at http://www.chny.org/Contact.195.0.html#c411. Visit www.CHNY.org for information on travel packages.
